Where to See the Best Fall Colors in Chicago's Suburbs

Looking for the top places to enjoy peak fall foliage in the community? Here are the most scenic spots for a day of autumn exploration with kids and your family:

1. Spring Valley Nature Center & Heritage Farm

Address: 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg, 60194
The 135-acre preserve is filled with a variety of trees, including oaks, maples, and hickories, which paint the landscape in vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. As the leaves change color, the nature center's trails become a picturesque backdrop for hiking, birdwatching, or simply enjoying the beauty of autumn. Do you have a favorite tree? Mine was at the entrance to the Heritage Farm Parking lot off of Plum Grove Road, but I think they took it down to put up the new sign (*sigh*). Just need to find me a new bright red fall bloomer!

2. Busse Woods

Address: Multiple entrances in Elk Grove Village off of Golf Road, Arlington Heights Road, & Higgins Road

This expansive forest preserve boasts a diverse range of trees, including oaks, maples, and hickories, which transform into vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow during the autumn season. The park's trails provide a picturesque backdrop for hiking, biking, or eyeing the Elk at the pasture off of Arlington Heights Road.

3. Meacham Grove Forest Preserve

Address: 144 S Circle Ave, Bloomingdale, IL 60108

This 255-acre oasis offering a variety of natural features. With its woodland groves, meadows, wetlands, and the meandering Spring Brook Creek, it provides a serene escape for nature enthusiasts. The preserve features a designated nature preserve area, offering a glimpse into the region's native flora and fauna. Visitors can enjoy hiking along the preserve's trails, observing wildlife, and has bike trails that follow the North Central DuPage Regional Trail which has a bridge that rides right over Roselle Rd/Bloomingdale Rd - we like stopping and waving at the trucks!

4. Arthur L. Janura Forest Preserve

Address: Multiple Entrances in Hoffman Estates off of Barrington Road, Rte 59, Shoe Factory Rd, and Bode Rd
Spend the day outdoors trekking the Arthur L Janura Preserve in Hoffman Estates where you can find the Carl R Hansen Woods, Bode Lake, and Poplar Creek Picnic Areas, and Model Airplane and Drone flying fields.
