Summer is just about here for most, and what better way to keep kids (and adults!) engaged than with a fun reading challenge? Reading over the summer helps prevent the "summer slide" in learning and keeps minds sharp. We've got you covered with exciting programs and challenges in our communities, sure to make summer reading an adventure!
Local Library and Book Store Summer Reading Programs:
- Schaumburg Library: Read, Renew, Repeat Summer Reading Challenge: Now through August 1st Sign Up Here
- Kids (ages 0 to 11): Earn the first four badges to win your prize of a book. You'll receive bonus prizes for each additional badge you earn.
- Teens (ages 12 to 19) and adults: Track each day you read, up to 35 days, earning a badge for every 5 days you read. Teens get a free book just for registering. Adults receive a mug (while supplies last) upon completion.
- Elk Grove Village Public Library: Summer Reading Challenges: Starts June 10th Sign Up Here
- Kids (ages 0-13) Time to Read Through Time | June 10 - July 26, 2024: Sign up and read to earn prizes and get submitted into the raffle for bigger prizes at the end of the program! Opening day kick off on June 10 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM, with more bonuses during the first week!
- LibraryPalooza (adults 14+) | June 10 - August 25, 2024: Start earning prizes after the first 5 books you read, including a t-shirt and gift cards to local businesses.
- Roselle Public Library: Read, Renew, Repeat Summer Reading Challenge: June 10-August 10 Sign Up Here
- Join the summer reading program to earn prizes just for reading in June, July and August! Programs are available for every age; babies, toddlers, preschool, kindergarten, school age kids, teens and adults. Based on time spent reading or listening to a book, not how many books read. Prize books and more are on the table!
- Rolling Meadows Public Library: Adventure is Out There: May 25-August 31 Sign Up in Person - More Info
- Register at the Ask Me Desk beginning May 25. Kids at all reading levels - including those not yet reading on their own - are encouraged to join the challenge.

- Bloomingdale Public Library: Read, Renew, Repeat Summer Reading Challenge: June 10-August 10 More Info
- The Youth Summer Reading Program is open to infants through students entering sixth grade. Upon registration, each participant over age 2 receives a Read, Renew, Repeat t-shirt and a reading log. Babies will receive a different age-appropriate gift.
Sign up starting Monday, June 3. Prizes are awarded for every 5 hours of reading.

- Arlington Heights Memorial Library: Read Track Win: June 1-July 31 More Info & Registration
- Track how many days you read and earn prizes along the way. Stop by the Summer Reading Desk in Kids' World, The Hub Desk or the book mobile to pick up a reading log and claim your registration prize!
- Prizes provided (while supplies last) for reading 30 days straight, and an additional 30 days!
- Palatine Library: 100 Years Summer Reading Program: June 1-August 15 More Info & Registration
- Sign up online or stop in to register! Pick up a scratch off card at the library freebies and discounts to local libraries too! Tracking is based on the number of books you read. After completing the program, you receive a Grand Prize T-Shirt or Tote Bag, generously donated by Friends of the Palatine Library (while supplies last)
- Barnes and Noble: Summer Reading Program: Now thru August 31 More Info
- Designated for Students 1st Grade - 6th Grade: Participation is a fun and easy way for kids to earn free books. They simply read a designated number of books – library books, books borrowed from friends or books bought at Barnes & Noble – write about their favorite part in the B&N Reading Journal, and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them during July and August.
