Memorial Day Weekend Events and Observances in the Schaumburg Area

Honoring Heroes & Welcoming Summer

Memorial Day weekend is a time to remember the brave men and women who served our country. But it's also the unofficial kick-off to summer, filled with sunshine, cookouts, and family fun! Here in Schaumburg, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the long weekend that are both respectful and exciting. From honoring fallen heroes to enjoying outdoor adventures, get ready to make some lasting memories with your loved ones!

Honoring Heroes:

  • Memorial Day Ceremony: Attend a local ceremony to pay your respects. 
    • Arlington Heights: The Village of Arlington Heights' 105th Annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 27th, 2024. This annual event is organized by the American Legion and Veterans Memorial Committee of Arlington Heights. The parade kicks off at 9:30 a.m. sharp. and concludes at Memorial Park, where the Memorial Day Ceremony takes place, at 11:00 AM
    • Elk Grove Village: Residents are invited to the annual Memorial Day Ceremony hosted by Elk Grove Village, with the support VFW Post 9284 and its Ladies Auxiliary. Monday, May 27 10:45 AM at the Elk Grove Park District Pavilion.
    • Hoffman Estates: Memorial Day Observance ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the Hoffman Estates Veterans Memorial site located in front of the Hoffman Estates Police Department at 411 W. Higgins Road.
    • Rolling Meadows: The City of Rolling Meadows and Rolling Meadows Veteran Committee pay a special tribute to veterans on Saturday, May 25th, with a Memorial Day Parade at 11:00 AM down Kirchoff Rd. followed by a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial/Carillon Bell Tower. 
    • Schaumburg: Immediately following the lowering of the flag at the Hoffman Estates ceremony, attendees will proceed to a ceremony at 10:45 AM at the St. Peter Lutheran Church & School, 202 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.
      The observance will be an outdoor event held rain or shine, with an indoor contingency if needed for severe weather. Following the observance, weather permitting, hot dogs and other refreshments will be served at the Picnic Grove at St. Peter Church. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating on the grounds.
    • Streamwood: The Village Board and Veterans Memorial Commission invite you to the 2024 Memorial Day Observance at the Streamwood Veterans Memorial on Sunday, May 26 at 11:00 AM. The ceremony will include a performance by the Spring Valley Concert Band and Medinah Highlanders Pipes and Drums.
    • Itasca: The 2024 Itasca Memorial Day Parade will step-off at 9:30 AM on the corner of Washington St. and Princeton Ave. heading south. It will continue west on George St, north on Oak St, east on Washington St, north on Walnut St, ending on the corner of Walnut St. and Bloomingdale Rd. After the parade, attendees will gather at Usher Park for the Memorial Day Ceremony.
  • Volunteer as a Family:  Many organizations host volunteer opportunities to place flags on veterans' graves. It's a meaningful way to teach kids about the holiday's true meaning.
  • Learn a New Story: Grab material from the library *prior to Monday* and learn about the experiences of these American Heroes. NOTE: Most public libraries are closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27.

Making Memories:

  • Picnic in the Park: Pack a delicious spread and head to one of our many beautiful forest preserve or parks. Don't forget to fly a flag and have a moment of silence to remember those we honor.
  • Splash into Summer!  Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to visit the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago or Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament for some indoor, air-conditioned fun. Or go all in and hit the pool! The following are opening this weekend:
    • Atcher Island - 730 S. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg
    • Meineke Pool - 220 E. Weathersfield Way, Schaumburg 
    • Frontier Pool - 1933 N Kennicott Dr, Arlington Heights
    • Recreation Park Pool - 501 E Miner St, Arlington Heights
    • Nelson Sports Complex Pool - 3900 Owl Drive, Rolling Meadows
    • Rainbow Falls Water Park - 180 Lions Dr.,  Elk Grove Village
    • Seascape Family Aquatic Center - 1300 Moon Lake Blvd, Hoffman Estates
  • Play Ball:  Catch the Schaumburg Boomers play their 3 game series against the __ all weekend with post-game Fireworks on Friday and Sunday and Hawaiian shirt giveaway to the first 1,500 fans on Saturday!

Bonus!  Support local businesses by grabbing some delicious BBQ or refreshing ice cream from a local favorite.
