Most residents are aware of the Schaumburg Township District Library’s (STDL) central branch in Schaumburg. After all, it’s hard to miss a 166,000 sq. ft. building in Town Square! But the library’s branches in Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park also offer a plethora of resources, materials and programs, and may be more conveniently located to people living in those communities. Although they house fewer books, they have access to the entire collection of books and movies located in the Schaumburg facility. And…patrons are welcome to request books from other libraries as well, thanks to our Interlibrary Loan system. If none of STDL’s three locations have a book you want to read, STDL staff can request it from another library and have it sent right to the branch library closest to your house.
Our Hoffman Estates Library is located at 1550 Hassell Rd.; just down the street from the Hoffman Estates Village Hall. It houses a teen area, computers for public use, a program room, and a quiet reading room complete with fireplace. This bright and spacious branch also offers a variety of programs for all ages, including storytimes, “Baby Play” and “Hour of Code,” along with crafts, adult literacy programs, computer classes and more. Upon entering the Hoffman Estates branch, you’ll see the “Reflections of Northern Illinois” quilt, created by internationally renowned quilter M. Joan Lintault and dedicated to the library in 2004. Colorful depictions of corn, leaves, pumpkins and birds represent our community’s produce and wildlife. Behind the library, in a peaceful courtyard, you’ll find the Troika Fountain, a copper sculpture created by artist Steve Rayman. Whether you’re looking to read, watch movies, learn, play, or discover something new, the Hoffman Estates branch is the perfect venue.
Residents in the Hanover Park area won’t want to miss the quaint and colorful branch library at 1266 Irving Park Rd., with its teen room, computer area, program room and fanciful castle play area, complete with throne. In addition to all the materials and opportunity to borrow from other libraries, the Hanover Park branch offers storytimes, “Baby Play,” art programs, computer classes and more. Kids can enjoy monthly storytimes with Hanover Park Mayor Rod Craig, tween programs like “Simple and Powered Machines” coming in February, and adult craft workshops like the upcoming “Gold Leaf Vase” scheduled for early May.
For a full listing of programs coming to all of the STDL locations, see the library’s Guide, which is mailed to Schaumburg Township residents and also available online at SchaumburgLibrary.org.
