Mom of the week - Mirela

By Marcela Naste, publisher for Schaumburg - Hoffman Estates September 18, 2019

What 3 words best describes you?

Sensitive, creative, caring

Being mom is 100% job, but we all find time for our passions. What are yours and how do you juggle with them?

Since having kids, I focused all my time and energy in raising them. And I must say, I absolutely love it! They grow up way too fast and I am so happy to see them reach their milestones, go through different stages and phases. I know there will come a time when they will be more independent and not need me as much, so I am taking full advantage now.

I love travelling, and I used to travel a lot with my husband, in Europe and in the US. However, this was before having kids. In a few years, when the kids are a bit older, I hope we can start traveling more.

I also love spending time with my family, either at home or at different events. Saturday is usually family fun day in our household. We love exploring the city and surroundings, and we also love spending time outdoors. I love nature and that is one of the reasons I moved in an area with many tress (Tree City).

Also, I am fascinated by make-up. I would love to take some professional classes, but just for myself, as a hobby.

Baking is another passion of mine and one of my favorite ways to have some quality time with my daughter as she loves to help.

I love numbers and accounting. In the future I want to return to school to pursue my dream of finishing my MBA. I put my studies on hold to focus on raising my children, but I will return to school soon.

Even if my “first love” is math, I also enjoy reading, especially reading to my kids.

How have you changed as a person since becoming a mom?

I feel complete! Obviously, I’ve became more responsible because my children are everything for me. They changed my life in such a great way, and I cannot picture myself any other way. I think, I also grew into a stronger, more compassionate and more confident woman.

What is something you especially proud of?

I am proud of my family and all that we accomplished together. Surprise surprise…my children are on top of my list!!! I am also proud of being able to buy a house and turn it into our dream home.

What quality do you most admire in a mother?

I admire patient and loving moms. A lot of times, our children cannot express or recognize their feelings, frustrations or worries. Those lead to meltdowns. SO I feel that it’s important to communicate with them, to be patient, to explain every little thing. Each age has its challenges, but we must always be patient and loving, because parents help the children bloom into beautiful, kind, compassionate, wise humans.

Describe your family!

There are 3 generations under one roof. My husband and myself, our 2 children (3 yo daughter and 9 months old son) and my-in-laws. I always wanted my children to grow up with their grandparents, so my wish came true. My parents live in Romania, but they also visit us as much as they can.

You have a boy and a girl, how challenging is to raise them; what are your tricks?

Both my husband and I wished for a boy and a girl, so we are thrilled to have a pair. They are over 2 years apart, so it gets challenging at times, but I love it, it keeps me busy and engaged.

My daughter started preschool 2 weeks ago, and we are in the process of accommodating. To help make this a smooth process, we go to the park with her classmates after school.

I don’t know if I have any tricks, but I always try to do many activities with them, to keep them busy and entertained

My husband is very helpful, loving and supportive. He is super involved in raising our kids, and he is responsible for many laughs in our family. My-in-laws are also extremely helpful, they are the BEST, very supportive, loving, caring and very cool!
