I always say that, in life everything is happening for a reason, and after meeting Melissa, the co-owner of Velarde Salon & Spa, and Sherry, her right-hand and one of her best friends, I was once again right! They have been kind enough to give a helping hand to a local business, to us, Schaumburg Macaroni Kid, and after getting to know them better, I knew that it was meant to be! š silly as it sounds, talking about their business and their friendship, in 20 minutes, while brainstorming this article; they re-lived so many nice memories and, I am happy that I gave them this opportunity!
This year, on Mother’s Day weekend, Velarde Salon & Spa is celebrating 19 years since they first open their business. Melissa’s family extends from business partner, to co-workers and best friends, who all worked as a team for the past 19 years, by making the business grow and provide the highest quality of customer service and bringing the best possible results. The business reached the high level of quality services because of her teamwork, as she admits, for which she is very grateful !
For Melissa, the Velarde Salon & Spa has become her 2nd home, from the moment she opened it, having the chance to work along with her uncle, who’s the co-owner, her aunt, nieces, nephews, seeing her daughter grow in the Salon, hiding under the chairs, building forts, running throw the customers legs, those “old” times when, there were no tablets/ smartphones to keep the kids busy, like today š. Her family has grown along with her business and she’s very thankful for it!
When she’s not at the Salon, you can cater her outside; she likes to enjoy staying in the nature, taking hikes, riding her bike, gardening or simply laying in the sun. After 23 years spent in the cosmetic field, she still dreams big, for this reason she’s planning to start a new journey on her own – a blog, featuring home décor & design, called “Dollhouses + catfish”.This is another passion of her, for which she’s planning to give more attention and to make a living out of it.
When asked about what quality she most admires for a “mother”, she confesses that is the ability to always put others before herself and be the best multitasker all the time! Sounds familiar for all the mothers out there? As for travelling, on her bucket list is to visit Dubai, hopefully soon, she only needs some courage, since the flight takes so long.
