Take a Moment to Appreciate What You Have

Find ways to show your appreciation!

Thanksgiving is a great reminder to enjoy and appreciate the things that we are so fortunate to have in our lives. This year, take a step back from the turkey and gravy, and channel back to the spirit of this holiday. Take a moment, go around the table and have everyone share a few things they are thankful for in the past year.

This doesn’t have to stop after the turkey goes cold. Let’s evaluate what’s important in our lives, and make an effort to remain appreciative during the season as well as throughout 2019. I heard a story on the news that I want to share because I think it is an important lesson that all families can benefit from. A 10 year old girl was walking home from school with her friend and a strange man in a van approached her, and told her that her brother had been in a car accident and that her parents had asked him to come get her. She asked him for a code word which he didn’t know. The code word was probably what saved her life! Can you imagine how thankful her parents are that they thought to tell her about the code word? The minute I heard this story, I decided I should share it with all parents, and I am doing my best to do that while still appreciating all that is good in the world.

This Thanksgiving, as you are sitting down with your family and enjoying a hot plate of stuffing and mashed potatoes, take a moment to appreciate what you have and where you are going. Find ways to show your appreciation and pass it along to others. If you have small kids, think about sharing the idea of a code word.

Happy Thanksgiving, from all of us at College
